Things to Consider When Booking a Jail Notary Service in
Phoenix, Arizona
1. You should always contact the jail prior to contacting a Notary Public to ensure they allow visitors.
2. You should always try to contact the inmate prior to the Notary's visit to the jail to ensure you have gone over why you are sending a Notary to them and what the document will entail. Notaries are not responsible for going over documents with inmates as Notaries are not attorneys and can't offer legal advice.
3. If your document calls for a witness you should note that many jailers will not act as a witness on your documents. Which means that you may have to pay additional fees if the Notary must bring a secondary witness. Often times, the secondary witness will be another Notary as most jails will only allow multiple people in to see an inmate if they are State officials (like a Notary or an Attorney.
4. Notaries are not allowed to create documents for inmates to sign such as Release Forms, Power of Attorney Forms, Divorce Documents, etc unless they are also a Licensed Document Preparer or an Attorney. You should always come in hand with your document when requesting a Notary.
5. You should be able to either meet the Notary at the Jail you are requesting to retrieve the document when the appointment is done, provide them a FedEx or UPS label to ship the document to you, or be willing to pay for a FedEx, UPS label (or courier fee) to have the Notary return the document to you.
6). Many jails will not allow inmates to sign with an Ink pen. This may be alarming, however, there are no Federal Laws that State a person's signature must be in INK to be legally binding. If the Jail your Notary services does not allow Ink signatures, this is not a fault of your Notary. Your Notaries Signature and Stamp will always be in ink.

A notary public is a public official authorized to witness and authenticate the signing of important documents, acting as an impartial witness to deter fraud and ensure the document's validity. They verify the identity of the signer(s), ensure they are signing willingly and understand the document, and then officially record the transaction. Re: National Notary Association

In order to have a document notarized in the State of Arizona the person seeking to have their signature notarized must appear before a Notary Public in-person or through Remote Online Notarization with a valid ID set forth by the State of Arizona.
Currently the cost of a single Notarization in Arizona is set at $10 per notarized signature. However, there may be additional fees associated with time and travel for mobile notaries or additional fees such as scheduling fees through Notary management systems. Real Estate, Hospital, and Jail clients may pay a flat Signing Fee which includes document notarization that encompasses time, travel, and administering of a set of documents to oversee that the signer receives a general description of the documents and executes them properly.

RE: Arizona Notary Handbook Notary_Manual_and_Cover_January_2025-52.pdf
There are no age restrictions on obtaining a notarization on a document. However, age may play a factor in the Notary determining if the signer is mentally capable of understanding the document. Young children and the elderly may not seem capable of singing a document to an experienced Notary Public and their notarization may be denied.
Completing a notarization in the State of Arizona is relatively quick if you are prepared for your appointment with proper identification. Of course, if you have multiple documents it may take longer. On average you should expect about 5-10 minutes per document to complete. Just note, this is based on the average document only being a few pages. Larger documents that contain hundreds of pages may take longer for the Notary to inspect.
Mobile notaries are the predominant force of Notary services in the State of Arizona. However, some UPS stores still offer services at their desk. Please note: UPS Store employees are not career notaries and although they may be ideal for simple documents. More complex documents should be for more career type Notaries such as mobile notaries.
A mobile Notary Public, also known as a Signing Agent, is a Notary who has invested in advanced Notary education such as the National Notary Association, Notary Stars, Apostille training with John Nelson or Judy Lawerence, Notary2Pro, or Notary Academy. These career Notaries open mobile operations to service homes, jails, hospitals, tile companies, attorneys, and more.
Notary Challenger is a Signing Service extension of Unlimited Ink Notary and services all areas of Arizona through in-person and Remote Online Notarization.
Yes, it is 100% legal to have a document notarized in Arizona through Remote Online Notarization. However, at this time it is always ideal to check with the receiving party to ensure that they accept Remote Online Notarization. Pretty much any document that can be uploaded as a copy can be notarized online. However, items like car titles can’t be Notarized online as the original document must be stamped. There are also restrictions in Real Estate as both the Title Company and Lender must accept Remote Online Notarization. Although Remote Online Notarization is making progress there’s still a few stipulations to overcome.
